Cruise Ships and Routes 2011 – 2012
Experiencechile.Org Special Offer
For reservations made with us for any of the products below we will include, free of charge, a hotel room night for two people in a 5 star-level hotel (to a value of USD250 per room night), or closest too, in any city in Chile or Argentina. This offer is in addition to any promotion that the cruise ship company may also be offering.

We offer three different styles of cruise ships and combinations of ship and flight to the South Shetland Islands in the area of the Antarctic Peninsula. We work with these Antarctic cruise suppliers because they offer a personal touch: Antarctic Dream, Antarctica XXI. The ships are of good quality, comfortable and “cosy”. However, there is one ship operated by the Norwegian company Hurtigruten, which is a different style. It is a larger ship than the other two, with a higher passenger capacity, but offering a top level of service and comfort in line with what is expected from a top Scandinavian cruise ship operator.

Antarctic Dream Ship
This is the most personal and particular of the three Antarctic cruise options that we offer. Two itinerary options allow passengers to combine a flight and cruise as well as boarding in Ushuaia (Argentina) and ending in Punta Arenas (Chile) and vice-versa. The M/V Antarctic Dream was formerly called Piloto Pardo. It comprises 4 decks, 40 wood-panelled cabins (state rooms) each with an outer sea-view window, a maximum passenger capacity of 80, a bridge that is open to passengers, a main dining room (for 100 passengers), first-aid room with doctor on board, a projection lounge, heliport, bar, library and souvenir shop and 6 zodiac dinghies for ship-to-shore excursions.

Hurtigruten Ship
The ship, MS Fram, is named after another ship that was used by a famous Norwegian explorer called Fridtjof Nansen. It is a modern ship of the style associated with the luxury cruise ships of Scandinavia, that is to say, everything is built and finished to a high standard. The ships interior is designed around the colours and open spaces of Greenland and the Arctic region, including original art works on the walls. There is also a glass-enclosed observation lounge and on-board leisure facilities including a gym, sauna and two-heated outdoor Jacuzzis.

The MS Fram is a purpose-built 8-deck, 12,700-ton vessel, built in 2007 in Italy, for cruising in Arctic waters and Norwegian fiords. There is capacity on board for 300 passengers.

Antarctica Landings with Hurtigruten
The state of the weather, wind and ice conditions will determine the exact nature of the itinerary and safety will always take priority. However the following landing sites are all locations that are targeted for shore expeditions:

Half Moon Island in the South Shetland Islands
Staggeringly photogenic and blessed with some of the most spectacular scenery imaginable.

Deception Island in the South Shetland Islands
A distinctive ring-shaped volcanic caldera with a flooded interior. A natural harbour within contains “Whalers Bay” – an abandoned whaling station and a derelict British base.

Yankee Harbour in the South Shetland Islands
Home to a large colony of around 4,000 Gentoo penguins.

Curverville Island
Located in the scenic Errera Channel, here is the largest-known colony of Gentoo penguins in the Antarctic Peninsula. Here are also trapped ice bergs that the ship will navigate around.

Neko Harbour
This is one of the few places where it is possible to land on the Antarctic mainland. Dramatic scenery, with mountains and high glaciated walls.

Paradise Bay
Another location where it is possible to land on the mainland of Antarctica. Lovely views.

Lemaire Channel
This is a seven-mile long and one-mile wide channel offering one of the most beautiful passages in Antarctica.

Petermann Island
Here it is usual for there to be ice bergs and whales as well as stunning views across the Antarctic Peninsula.

Port Lockroy
The British built a base here in 1941, which was abandoned in 1962, but refurbished in 1996 and now a museum. It offers a unique window into what life was like here in the 1950’s.

Wilhemina Bay
Dramatic Antarctic scenery and a feeding ground fro seals and whales.

Antarctic Sound
Here the huge ice shelves of the Antarctic continent calve off into mile-long tabular icebergs, which then float in currents into the Antarctic Sound.

Brown Bluff
Located on the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula, on the coast of the Antarctic Sound, the landscape is dominated by a 2,450ft-high cliff. Home to Adelie and Gentto Penguins, kelp gulls and cape petrels, as well as seals.

Rates below are per person in a cabin for two people. Please add a fuel surcharge of USD8 per cruise night.
